As a believer of engineering for the sake of engineering, you'd think that you would support any initiatives that search for the conservation/collection of energy no matter what form it is in.
I think that some people are adverse to environmental initiatives because there is concern that they will be pegged as "another one of those jumping on a trend". However, even if you remove the environmental issue from the engineering, it's an interesting initiative and one that I would suggest you would ordinarily find exciting let alone support.
The stuff probably isn't cheap and I'm sure the money could be used in more meaningful environmental initiatives. But I'll support it if it works (if we ever hear about it again). :)
